CPD FAQs
How many CPD hours are required annually?
The annual requirement is 20 CPD hours, all related to the activity of financial planning. The 20 hours are made up of the following:
- A minimum of 5 formal hours from the FPSB Ireland approved CPD listing. All of these hours have been approved and accredited by FPSB and include seminars, events, e-learning and additional qualifications. The approved list for 2024 is available here.
- A minimum of 15 informal hours (financial planning relevant podcasts, newspaper articles, publications, networking, committees, etc). This is general learning, not related to a specific outcome, which is difficult to provide evidence for. These hours are not directly accredited by FPSB Ireland.
How do I submit my annual CPD return?
An online Annual CPD submission form for 2024 is available here. Simply complete the required fields and click submit. You will receive a confirmation email. Your CPD return must be completed annually by 31st January the following year.
Who monitors my CPD return?
FPSB Ireland will monitor your CPD return. We do this through:
- An annual review of CPD records, and
- A more detailed audit of supporting evidence each calendar year
I have been out of work on maternity leave / extended sick leave, how does this affect my CPD requirement?
If you have been out on sick leave, maternity leave, carer’s leave or parental leave for an extended period, we can reduce your CPD hours accordingly. In this instance, we require a completed CPD pro-rata adjustment form, available here.
I attended an event that is not listed on the FPSB Ireland Approved CPD List
If you have attended an event/webinar not listed that you think is eligible for CPD, please submit a CPD Accreditation Request Form, available here, and we’ll review the event for you. Please read our Guidelines for approval of events for Financial Planning CPD hours. You will be advised by email that the event has / has not been approved for CPD hours.
